Hampton Roads Chapter Virtual Luncheon Meeting – December 9, 2020
Another Hampton Roads Chapter virtual luncheon was held at noon on December 9, 2020. The speaker was Dan Newman; Senior Technical Fellow / Chief Engineer, Boeing Phantom Works, Advanced Vertical Lift. His topic was the NATO Next Generation Rotorcraft. Over the past years NATO has been setting the conditions for the Next Generation Rotorcraft (NGR) and identifying NGR Capabilities (NGRC), through a series of studies by the NATO Science and Technology Office (STO), the NGRC Team of Experts (TOE), and an ongoing series of studies by the NATO Industry Advisory Group (NIAG). This presentation reviewed the background and need, the ongoing activities and emerging results, and the recent agreements among NATO Member Nations toward an NGR. Thanks to Mr. Newman for an excellent presentation and to Sierra Semel, chapter Vice President/Program Chair for organizing it. The event was held in cooperation with the VFS Delaware Valley chapter. Approximately 40 persons attended.
First Hampton Roads Chapter Virtual Luncheon Meeting, July 14, 2020.
Hampton Roads Chapter held a virtual Hampton Roads Chapter luncheon meeting on July 14, 2020 via Microsoft Teams. The speaker was Mr. David Friedmann, Deputy PM, Development & Test, FARA CP, who briefly described the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft Competitive Prototype (FARA CP) program. The software worked very well with no problems in signing in, hearing or seeing the presentation. It also provided the opportunity for those who had microphones to ask questions of which there were several. The subject matter is of great interest across the industry so the attendance of approximately 75 persons included many from outside the domain of the chapter. Attendance was significantly greater than would have been expected for a sit down luncheon meeting. Thanks to the speaker and to those who set the system up to work so well.
